Collecting and Processing Native Seedsby Danielle Bell. Most people think of fall as the time to put gardens to sleep for the winter. Actually, it is the perfect time to start planning for the next season by collecting seeds from gardens, especially native gardens, avoiding the expense of purchasing seed. Collecting seed can be an economical way to expand gardens to support more pollinators in the future. Sharing or swapping seed with family and friends adds more diversity. Come learn about when is the best time to collect seed, how to store and clean seed, and techniques for dormant season seeding. Danielle grew up exploring the natural world starting in the oak hickory woodland of her parent’s home. While working in the green industry and on restoration projects she noticed the disconnect humans have with our landscapes, especially in the urban environment. Danielle uses her experience from restoring native wetlands, prairies, and woodlands throughout Southeastern Wisconsin to inspire her residential designs.
